Free movie portrays injured Vietnam vet who became famed disabilities activist A free showing of the film, ?Music Within? will be presented at the Kenworthy Theater by the Self-Advocate Leadership Network (SALN) on Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. Patrons are asked to donate one canned food item, to be donated to the Moscow Food Bank. ?Music Within? is based on the true story of Richard Pimentel, deafened by a bomb blast while serving in the Vietnam War. After returning to his home in Portland, Oregon and finding himself discriminated against and unemployable, Pimentel reinvents himself as a leading disabilities activist. Not only does he change other?s perceptions of people with disabilities, he also helps people with disabilities change perceptions of themselves. ?Music Within,? directed by Steven Sawalich, was filmed in Portland and is rated R. ---- SALN is an organization for Idahoans with developmental disabilities that is actually run by Idahoans with developmental disabilities.
