                PRIMA TRIO in concert
Tuesday, Sept. 20 @ 7:30 p.m. in the University of Idaho’s Administration Auditorium
 
This violin, clarinet, and piano ensemble was formed in 2004 by three talented Oberlin students from former Soviet Union countries. The trio debuted at the Kennedy Center in 2006 and won Grand Prize at the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2007.

Ildikó Kalapács is a Hungarian American visual artist and folk dancer currently living in the United States. Her experiences living in both socialist and capitalist countries have given her an appreciation of diversity, and her art examines the overlaps and ambiguities of various identities.

This modern retelling of the Trojan War epic “brilliantly meshes past and present calamity, with touches of the most caustic dark humor suddenly shifting into unimaginable pathos” (Chicago Sun-Times). Directed by Benjamin Gonzales, with David Harlan of Moscow Art Theatre (Too).

                ROJA KANNAN
“Search for the Blue Lotus”
Thursday, Sept. 22 @ 7:00 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium
 
Dancing in a classical style from southern India called Bharatanatyam, Roja Kannan narrates the journey of a soul, personified by a young woman called Manonmani, in search of the Blue Lotus.

Weaving stories from movement and music of the African diaspora, including Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban cultures, with contemporary dance, Rejoice! illuminates issues and topics that span generations.

Blending the richness of Mexican folk traditions and high-octane fiddling with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music, the Villalobos Brothers offer a powerful message of love, brotherhood, and social justice.
