Name: AmeriCorps National Day of Recognition
Date: April 4, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) will celebrate National Service Recognition Day on Tuesday, April 4, beginning at 10 a.m. at the PCEI Nature Center by hosting a community volunteer day that will feature local city and county officials working with community members and area AmeriCorps members.

This event will highlight the work local AmeriCorps members do in our area every day, and it will allow community members, AmeriCorps and alumni to serve together by working on a local project.

In that spirit, Moscow Mayor Bill Lambert will sign a proclamation on April 3, declaring April 4, 2017 as National Service Recognition Day, stating that everyone in Moscow is encouraged to recognize the positive impacts of volunteer service in the City of Moscow, and to thank those who serve, and those who find ways to give back to their communities and nation.

April 4 is not strictly for AmeriCorps members. One of PCEI’s goals is to connect people, place and community, and a way to do this, is to offer service projects. This year people are invited to the PCEI Nature Center to wood chip pathways, to help in the nursery or to help get the Nature Center ready for summer.

AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,600 unique sites including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve.
