Name: Ballet Idaho
Date: October 27, 2017
Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM PDT
Event Description:
Ballet Idaho’s mission is to promote classical and contemporary ballet by encouraging artists to greatness and inspiring the public to value the performing arts. This exciting performance will do just that as it showcases several classical pieces, including the White Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake, and a pas de deux from Raymonda’s Wedding, both choreographed by Artistic Director, Peter Anastos. The performance will also feature three contemporary ballets first premiered in Ballet Idaho’s continuing NewDance series, featuring choreography by company members, Phyllis Rothwell Affrunti, Nathan Powell, and Daniel Ojeda.

Ballet Idaho has been performing in Idaho since 1972 and offers a full season of 22 performances from November through May. Their professional Academy of Dance trains students in classical ballet and provides extensive educational outreach programs for students in Boise, the Treasure Valley, and throughout Idaho. As the only professional ballet company in Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming, Ballet Idaho provides important artistic opportunities and experiences that greatly enrich the creative vitality of the Idaho community.
In addition to the public performance on Friday evening, Ballet Idaho’s first ever trip to the Palouse will include a free school show for several hundred third and fourth grade students from across Latah and Whitman Counties.  This 50-minute program on Friday morning will include demonstration of movements, discussion of ballet history, differences between classical and contemporary styles of ballet, and a Q & A session with company members.

The Ballet Idaho residency is presented and organized by Festival Dance and Performing Arts, in residence at the University of Idaho.  Festival Dance Director, Abby Glanville noted, “This is a tremendous opportunity for area families to see a performance by Idaho’s only professional ballet company.  The public performance will feature both contemporary and classical styles of ballet, so not only will it have very broad appeal, but it will illustrate the versatility of ballet as an art form.”
