Event Description:
Kids, families, and music-lovers of all ages are invited to Moscow Public Library for a short, one act, comic opera, followed by a brief Q&A! The University of Idaho Lionel Hampton School of Music Opera Workshop will present An Outreach Production of Bastien & Bastienne.
Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria, and at the age of twelve, was commissioned by Dr. Franz Messer, a family friend, to write the opera Bastien and Bastienne. This comic opera, originally written in German, was based on the French opera, Le devin du village by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The setting is a quaint country village where the young shepherd, Bastien, and the young shepherdess, Bastienne, rely on the assistance of Colas, the village magician, to patch up their relationship. This performance will be in English.
Voice Instructor Lynette Pfund adapted the opera and will narrate the performance. Students Dylan Aguayo, Edmund Brown, Vitoria Payne, and Catherine Anderson will perform.
