The Coeur d’Alene Mining Wars of the 1890s pitted miners against large corporate entities. Like workers at Homestead and Haymarket, northern Idaho workers fought to achieve safe working conditions and a living wage. The story includes dynamite explosions, under-cover detectives, and Idaho governors declaring martial law. Issues of immigration, access to health care, and party politics have considerable contemporary resonance. The Coeur d’Alene Mining Wars are a seminal episode in Idaho history.
