Big Band

The finale concert on Saturday, Feb. 25, opens with the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Big Band, with special guests Julia Keefe and Claudio Roditi. Keefe, from Spokane, Washington, attended the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival as a participating student and won Outstanding Vocalist in 2007. She is known for her improvisational lyrics, scat techniques and wide range of jazz influences, from classic to contemporary performers.

The headlining artist for Saturday is four-time Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding, a world-renowned genre-bending composer, bassist and vocalist. Her onstage engagement and theatrical performance demonstrate that she is grounded in jazz traditions, but never bound by them.

Series concert tickets go on sale Saturday, Nov. 19, and individual concert tickets go on sale Monday, Dec. 5. All concerts will be held in the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center and will begin at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, call 208-885-7212.
