Name: BookPeople Sponsors High School Poetry Night
Date: April 18, 2018
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
BookPeople of Moscow welcomes poets from Moscow High School 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 including Poetry Out Loud winner Anthony Plummer.  Plummer, a Moscow High School senior, won the Poetry Out Loud competition in Boise and will be representing Idaho in the national competition later this month in Washington, DC.  Also reading are Poetry Out Loud finalists Jed Wallen, Haley Dunkin, Bjorn Pellmyr, and Karin Falk.
Poetry Out Loud is a poetry recitation competition that encourages middle and high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance.  Plummer recited “The Bloody Sire, by Robinson Jeffers, and “The Paradox” by Paul Lawrence Dunbar and “To An Athlete Dying Young” by A.E. Houseman and was coached by Moscow High School drama director R. Todd Bailey, and emeritus teacher Susan Hodgin.
Anthony Plummer was born in Houston, Texas shortly before being adopted by his parents and he’s lived in Moscow ever since.  He will be attending the University of Idaho this fall to study human resources management.  He enjoys reading, participating in community theater, and learning about different languages and cultures. A character he played in “The Lemonade Stand” gave him the opportunity to better understand the life of a person living in poverty. He remembers this role in particular as it was a window into the life that is incredibly different from his own, but one that he could look around and see other people living. Anthony hopes to someday travel to Europe and Japan.
