Name: "Creation" at the Third Street Gallery
Date: July 11, 2019 - July 31, 2019
Event Description:
Creation features works by ceramicist Clara Nickels of Clara June Studios. Works on display include Nickels’ Artwalk 2019 poster image, handmade pottery, and short time lapse video clips of the artist’s creative process. The exhibition runs through Wednesday, July 31. The public is invited to the artist reception on Wednesday, July 31 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Moscow City Hall, with refreshments provided by Bloom and music by cello soloist Keadrin Cain.

In the industrialized, mass-produced world of goods, there is often no connection between the consumer and the producer. Even the processes by which objects are created tend to remain mysterious. Nickels connects the buyer with the artisan by producing unique, handmade, inspiring pottery crafted from local materials. The individuality and handmade quality of each piece creates a conversation between the maker and the collector of the ceramic arts; what was made by one pair of hands is used and appreciated by another. Using the strength and beauty of local clay, the artist creates functional and decorative art that resonates with the joy of creation.

The photograph entitled Creation, featured as the poster art for Artwalk 2019, was made by Nickels while she worked on her potter’s wheel. The photograph was selected from a group of more than 50 artworks submitted by artists in the community. The selection panel was impressed by Nickels’ ability to communicate the creative process through both ceramics and photography. A video interview with Nickels is available on the City of Moscow’s website at: https://www.ci.moscow.id.us/189/Artwalk.
