CULTURAL HERITAGE Free Lecture by Prof. James Nafziger

James A.R. Nafziger is the Thomas B. Stoel Professor of Law and Director of International Programs at the Willamette University College of Law. He is also Honorary Professor at the East China University of Politics and Law. He received B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. from Harvard University. A former Administrative Director of the American Society of International Law, of which he is currently serving as Secretary, he has been a Fulbright lecturer in Mexico and Mongolia as well as Scholar-in-Residence at the Rockefeller Foundation?s Study Center in Bellagio, Italy. Professor Nafziger?s extensive background in cultural heritage law and dispute resolution is reflected in both his teaching and his scholarship. He has published numerous cutting-edge articles, including several on the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Of his twelve books, four are specifically on cultural heritage issues, including a volume of The Hague Academy of International Law as its Co-Director of Research in 2005. He has also co-authored a comprehensive textbook, Cultural Law, published by Cambridge University Press, that embraces additional themes of cultural significance -- for example, sports, religion, language, and anthropological foundations of the law. He also chairs the Committee on Cultural Heritage Law of the International Law Association and is a member of the I.L.A.?s Executive Council. Professor Nafziger is Honorary Vice-President of the American Branch of the I.L.A., having served as its President and Chair of its Executive Committee. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
