The Latah County Human Rights Task Force and the City of Moscow Human Rights Commission are sponsoring the Great Moscow Food Drive on Saturday, August 6, 8am to 1pm at the Farmer’s Market, near the Fountain, and at Moscow Safeway and Moscow Rosauers. Donations of non-perishable food and household items are requested and will be given to the Moscow Food Bank and to Trinity Food Pantry. Donations of cash and checks will also be accepted with checks made to the Latah County Human Rights Task Force. Checks can also be sent to the Task Force at Box 8613, Moscow.
This year cash donations will go to help Summer Weekend Backpack for Kids, a project
that targets children from families who are eligible for free or reduced cost lunches and breakfasts during the school year, but who do not have this opportunity available in the summer. Volunteers from the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse and St. Mark's Episcopal Church are collaborating on this project, and are packing and distributing 100 bags each Friday.
The Great Moscow Food Drive was started in the year 2000 by Carla Kappler, a member of the Latah County Human Rights Task Force. The Task Force has continued to sponsor it every year due to the great need to assist local food banks in mid-summer when supplies are down.
