Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM PDT
Event Description:
Community members are invited to Moscow Public Library on Thursday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. for another lecture from the ongoing An Evening of History series, Be All You Can Be! Join a Convent! Hildegard of Bingen, Medieval Sage with Professor Ellen Kittell.
Perhaps no other individual exemplifies the era of extraordinary cultural, political, and artistic flowering known as the Twelfth-Century Renaissance than Hildegard of Bingen. Composer, astronomer, biologist, mystic, and forceful administrator, Hildegard drew inspiration and support not only from her religious convictions, but also from the communities that she headed as abbess. Exploring her story, her visions, her theology, and her character shows what religious life could offer women in the Middle Ages.
Ellen Kittell is a Professor History at the University of Idaho. An award-winning teacher, she has written books and articles focusing on medieval bureaucracy and on medieval women, including an article on medieval female bureaucrats in the medieval Low Countries.
Light refreshments will be served.
