Event Description:
On behalf of UIdaho International Mother Language Day Celebration Committee, all students, stuff and all community members of Moscow and Pullman are invited to participate in University of Idaho's first ever International Mother Language Day Celebration. International Mother Language Day was originally observed in February, 2000 by the United Nations, and has spread across the world as a way to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
UI’s celebration this year will be held on Friday, March 1 from 3:00pm-5:00pm in the Clearwater/Whitewater Rooms of the Commons. This event, which is sponsored by the Martin Institute, International Programs Office (IPO), and the GSSP, will consist of two main activities:
1. A series of speeches/performances and creative expressions highlighting linguistic diversity of our campus community.
2. Student display booths and activities to highlight diverse languages of UI student members.
Hopefully, you, or your student club, (such as the Indian Student Association, et al.) will consider participating in this second set of activities, either individually, or with friends who also speak your Mother (native) language. You will be provided with a booth where you can display artifacts and conduct activities to showcase the cultural and linguistic diversity of your club members. The audience will consist of UI faculty and students as well as community members, including children from the area schools.
