Name: Island Earth fro the Food For Thought Film Series
Date: April 18, 2018
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM PDT
Event Description:
The Food for Thought Film Series is designed to offer education through entertainment. The Moscow Food Co-op aims to bring both documentaries and feature films to town on a number of issues related to the Co-op's mission. Films are shown at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in downtown Moscow February-April and September-November with occasional additional screenings. The Co-op is excited to share that we have partnered with the UI Sustainability Center to make every film free for everyone! In addition, the Co-op may partner with additional community organizations and businesses that share interests in the subject matter of a particular film.
"Island Earth takes us to Hawaii, the 'ground zero' where all of these issues collide in sharp relife. Less than two centuries ago, native Hawaiians fed their large population through some of the most historically sustainable agricultural practices ever documented. Yet modern-day Hawaii now imports 80-90% of their food supply from elsewhere in the world, due to a complex web of public policy and private interests. Within two generations, the Hawaiians have become canaries in the coal mine for food issues that are affecting the entire planet."
