Event Description:
Author Justin Go will read from his novel, The Steady Running of the Hour  at BookPeople on Saturday, May 10th at 7:30pm.   The Steady Running of the Hour was one of the big debuts at the 2012 London Book Fair, making the cover of The Bookseller and selling to seventeen countries, ranging from Russia to France to China and has already received blurbs from New York Times bestsellers Anton DiSclafani and Kate Mosse. In brief, the story is that of Tristan Campbell, a young American who discovers he may be the heir to the estate of an English WWI officer and alpinist who perished in the 1924 British Everest Expedition, left unclaimed for nearly 80 years. This discovery launches him on a quest across Europe to uncover the story of the officer’s love affair with the woman who may or may not be his great-grandmother.

The novel also has a great backstory: Justin was just 27 when he quit his job at a New York law firm and decided to follow his dream to move to Berlin and write a novel, despite the fact that he didn’t speak German and knew no one there. He spent the next three years researching and writing, travelling through England, Germany, France, Sweden, Iceland – even to the base of Mt. Everest, eventually realizing his journey was mirroring his Tristan’s. After returning to the States, he continued to tinker with the book and when he was 32 and working as a dishwasher in a rundown hotel in New Orleans, Justin finally felt ready to send his novel out (unsolicited) to agents. Within 24 hours, they were vying to represent him, with one even flying to New Orleans to make his case.
