Name: Kino Short Film Festival
Date: May 1, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
Show times: April 30, 1:00 PM May 1, 7:00 PM The Kino Short Film Festival celebrates the art of short filmmaking and will present 20 films from Idaho, Oregon and Washington, as well as several made by area elementary and college students. All films are 10 minutes or less in length and include a mixture of documentaries, dramas, thrillers, comedies, horror and experimental films. Student films represent work from Lena Whitmore Elementary School in Moscow, Central Washington University and the University of Idaho. Regional films include submissions from Lewiston, Pocatello, Portland and Spokane. Audience members in attendance will vote for the people’s choice award for best student film and best overall film, with the winners receiving an engraved plaque. Attendees are encouraged to rate each film and give filmmakers feedback in writing and during question and answer sessions following each screening. The Kino Short Film Festival was founded in 2001 to showcase short film work from students in UI’s School of Journalism and Mass Media, part of the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. The festival originated as a way for students in the Advanced Video Production class to show films that they had spent the term planning, writing and directing. Beginning in 2016, the festival opened up to local filmmakers, producers and directors. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public. Donations at the door support the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, the area’s primary supporter of independent film.
