Come, learn, and share with other parents your struggles and success stories. Our first topic for discussion is Positive Behavior Support's. We will learn why a child maintains challenging behavior. Often a child's inappropriate behaviors are difficult to change because they are functional; they serve a purpose for them. These behaviors are supported by reinforcement in the environment. In the case of children, often adults in a child's environment will reinforce his or her undesired behaviors because the child will receive objects and/or attention because of his behavior. Some of the most commonly used approaches to changing behavior are: modifying the environment, providing an alternative to the undesired behavior, tactical ignoring of the behavior, distracting the child and more. Families Together will supply sandwich items (bread, deli meat, cheese, peanut butter and jelly). Please, bring a side dish to share.
