One World Cafe presents Nalani Proctor! A songwriter wading through the plains, Nalani Proctor breaths in the winds of the Midwest, and exhales the songs of her multicultural lineage. Hapa Haole by birth, Nalani never quite fit in with the crowd in Iowa, nor Hawaii. Finding solace in music, she writes out the pains of growing up, over and over again. Her most recent album release, “Nothing", is a labor of love, with the past 5 years writing songs to celebrate poignant milestones and defuse devastating heartbreaks. "Proctor’s music turns composition into a weapon, sharpening each song to a distinctive point that cuts right to the heart of the matter," writes SFOP Music. Nalani evokes the emotions of the lyrics, often layering her own voice and guitar to create upbeat surf rock sounds or unbearably sad and languid characters against sparse instrumentation. Daily Gate City’s G. Franklin boasted “‘Nothing’ is actually EVERYTHING.”
