Name: Palouse Pathways Offering Free College Exploration Courses
Date: March 28, 2018
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
Palouse Pathways a local non-profit organization that provides college and career resources to local families, will begin hosting its free College Exploration Course in Moscow, Pullman and Lewiston later this month.
The class is led by Palouse Pathway’s director, Peggy Jenkins, who has a certificate in College Admissions Counseling from UCLA Extension and is a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors.
Jenkins says “college exploration is the most important step on the path to college; it’s the time students decide what is important to them and what they hope to achieve. Students can take the lead in planning their future, and learn what they need to thrive in college and beyond.”
The course also includes a session for students and parents to attend together on finding colleges that are affordable. Jenkins says “believe it or not there are bargains for families of modest means and for those who might not qualify for financial aid.  We’ll give you tools to find them.”
The students explore schools nearby, in the greater Northwest, across the United States and abroad; however, Jenkins reports that many end their search by concluding that their hometown institutions provide everything they are looking for.
The class will meet once a month for four months.  There will be groups starting in Moscow, Pullman and Lewiston so students who miss a date can attend a make-up session nearby.
The Moscow sessions will be from 6 to 8 pm on January 31, February 21, March 28 and April 25 in the Federal Building Conferences Room.
The LC Valley Class will meet from 5:45-7:45 pm on February 5, March 5, April 9 and May 7 at the Lewiston City Library.
The Pullman classes will take place from 3-5 pm on February 11, March 11, April 8 and May 13 at the Pullman Regional Hospital.
The class is perfect for Juniors.  But it will also benefit tenth graders who are curious about college and/or need to start their preparations early, either because they are interested in attending a selective college and/or want to pursue college athletics and/or plan to study abroad or have a super full schedule during their junior year of high school.
