Reflections on the Land: A Conversation with Maynard Fosberg

Maynard Fosberg and his late wife Margaret purchased their home at the corner of D St. and Mountain View Rd. in 1951, an era when that location was still considered part of rural Latah County and too far afield for city services or even milk delivery from a local creamery. Nearly 70 years later, the Fosberg property is now a natural oasis within the urban setting of northeast Moscow. On Tuesday, July 2 Mr. Fosberg will share his recollections about those early years on the farm, reflect on how the community has changed over time, and share about his commitment to conserving this slice of rural heritage. The public is invited to his property at 1707 E. D St. at 5:30pm for a guided tour of the grounds, which will last approximately half an hour, and the conversation with Mr. Fosberg will follow at 6:00pm. Light refreshments will be served at this free, family-friendly event, thanks to the generous support of the Latah County Community Foundation. “Reflections on the Land: A Conversation with Maynard Fosberg” is presented by the Palouse Land Trust, which helped the Fosbergs permanently conserve the property, and the Latah County Historical Society. The program is offered in conjunction with the forthcoming exhibition of Crossroads: Change in Rural America, a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition show brought to the state by the Idaho Humanities Council. LCHS is coordinating the exhibit’s six week run in Moscow at the Chamber of Commerce downtown office, beginning on August 23.
