Event Description:
Get ready for a show that will have audiences on their feet! Join a sisterhood alive with spirit and friendship to raise your voice and rejoice! For the first time in Eastern Washington, the Regional Theatre of the Palouse will be premiering Sister Act, a Broadway musical comedy and Alan Menken hit, March 30 - April 9. In this divine comedy, a woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own. Sister Act is the feel-good musical smash based on the hit 1992 film that has become a comedy classic! Featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken *(Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. When the vivacious disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are certain she won't be found: a convent! Reluctantly disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the reserved lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her disco moves and miraculous singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, creating a lasting friendship uniting these unforgettable women. However, in doing so, she blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. This is one show you won’t want to miss! Filled with moving gospel music, outstanding dancing and a truly inspirational story, Sister Act will leave audiences cheering. A captivating tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is a reason to REJOICE! RTOP’s performance of Sister Act is directed by Michael Todd. Tina McClure, Rachel Wilkenson serve as co-musical directors. Choreography by Lindsay Shigetomi. Set design by Jett Bingman. Costume design by John Rich, founder and Executive Director of RTOP. Book by CHERI STEINKELLNER and BILL STEINKELLNER. Lyrics by GLENN SLATER. Music by ALAN MENKEN. Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture Sister Act written by Joseph Howard.
