Date: April 29, 2014
Event Description:
Join us for the Third Street Gallery’s newest exhibit titled “Social and Environmental Sustainability in the Age of Digital Design”. The exhibit begins April 23, 2014 and continues through May 14, 2014.

The reception is April 29, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and will feature a lecture by Arash Adel from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The exhibit will feature some recent research and design projects by Arash Adel.

Arash Adel is an architect, researcher and educator, with a master’s degree in architecture from Harvard University and a master’s degree in urban design from University of Tehran. He has taught design studios, seminars and computational design workshops both in the United States and abroad.

“All of these projects have been developed computationally and address the notion of social and environmental sustainability in the age of digital design. Design Computation and Digital Fabrication play important roles in the process of design to realization for all of these projects,” says Arash.

Arash’s research critiques the prioritization of formal explorations over analysis and material systems; such prioritization has carried into the development and logic of CAD. Rather than being a consumer of the CAD industry as a normative discourse related to a narrow understanding of digital design, his interest lies in the agency of digital design in integrating computation, material systems and performance. His research aims to provide critical instruments and technical tools to promote highly articulated and performative built environments. His work has been recognized with several awards and has been published in numerous global publications.
