Enjoy a tasty beverage and settle in for an afternoon of “Speaking Ill of the Dead: Jerks in Idaho History,” with author Randy Stapilus. Join the Latah County Historical Society, with support from Hunga Dunga Brewing Company and Best Western Plus University Inn, on Saturday, March 30 at 4 p.m. at the Latah County Fairgrounds.
Idaho’s history is littered with jerks of all stripes, from backcountry recluse Buckskin Bill to assassin Harry Orchard, from power-hungry government officials to “founding fathers” more interested in their own bottom line. But what does it mean to be a true “jerk”? Is it strictly someone plotting criminal activity, a ruffian, a sociopath? Or does the title also apply to one who lives life with heedless, foolhardy abandon, giving no thought to how their actions impact others? All this and more will be discussed by Randy Stapilus, the author of numerous books and articles about Idaho history, politics, and the state’s most influential people.
Doors will open at 4:00 p.m., program begins at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for LCHS members and $12 for non-members. One beer is included with the entry fee. Additional beverages and BBQ will be available for purchase from Hunga Dunga Brewing Company before and after the talk. Local musicians will provide live music following the presentation.
