Name: Tethered Weather Balloon Launch
Date: April 22, 2017
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
Moscow Public Library in partnership with Moscow High School will be conducting a practice tethered weather balloon launch in preparation for the solar eclipse in August. The event will be held on Earth Day, April 22 at 1:00 pm at Moscow High School (405 E 5th St.). Follow the trail of balloons leading you to the event site. Pat Blount, a member of Near Space Engineering Club, will be launching a data gathering balloon into the eclipse’s Path of Totality. The balloon will be tethered with a camera attached which will make the images visible to attendees of the event. The practice launch is funded in full by a grant from the Idaho Stem Action Center. In addition, latex balloons and slips of paper will be available to those who wish to release balloons with the hopes that the balloons and messages will be found and responded to.
