Name: The Pillowman
Date: August 1, 2019 - August 24, 2019
Event Description:
Moscow Art Theatre (Too) presents The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow on August 23 at 7:30pm and August 24 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. The Pillowman follows a writer named Katurian who is arrested under suspicion of a series of child murders in an unnamed totalitarian state. Two detectives, Tupolski and Ariel, question Katurian about a number of his stories that seem to mirror circumstances of the murders. With Katurian’s brother also in custody and all parties ready to tell their own stories, the interrogation is at turns confusing, surreal, touching and violent. This dark comedy was recognized with the Lawrence Olivier Award for best new play, two Tony Awards for production, a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for best foreign play and Drama Desk Awards both in the acting and production categories. McDonagh is also celebrated in the film world as a screenwriter, producer and director. He is the winner of an Academy Award, a BAFTA Film Award, and two Golden Globes. His 2018 film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was critically acclaimed and won multiple awards worldwide.
