A little about Candi's Cookies and the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Science
I’ve always loved baking and decorating, but Candi's Cookies wasn’t created until 2017 when numerous friends and colleagues encouraged me to expand my skills beyond my own kitchen. After years of decorating cakes for family and friends, I decorated my first set of cookies for college care packages for two of my children and their friends. Soon thereafter, my love of theme boxes inspired me to create more cookies, which I shipped across the country. It didn't take long before I had cookie orders and a few individuals asking me if I could teach them my recipes and share my tips. I quickly discovered that I really love teaching and seeing the smiles on everyone's faces as they create their first amazingly decorated cookies. Moreover, people who signed up for my first class were not only eager to take another one, but also brought their friends. In the fall of 2018, the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho invited me to be their first “Expert in Residence” to share my skills with both students and the community. I was thrilled! Not only did this opportunity allow me to teach, but it also allowed me to bake and decorate in the school’s gorgeous, state-of-the-art Carmelita Spencer Foods Laboratory. What a treat! We have the capacity to comfortably seat 30 eager learners and are looking forward to ongoing classes featuring an array of different mediums and skill levels. Stay tuned for future opportunities!
