Palouse Pathways, a local non-profit providing resources around higher education, is hosting an“Honors Night” from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday September 27 at the Great Room of the 1912 Center.  This is the third year Palouse Pathways is hosting the event, and it will be double the size of last year’s.
This year, representatives from the honors colleges and programs at University of Washington, Western Washington University, Portland State University and University of Portland will join University of Idaho, Washington State University, Boise State University and Central Washington University at the event.  Peggy Jenkins, director of Palouse Pathways, says that “we are gratified and proud that so many great honors colleges and programs want to share information and connect with students in our area.”
Honors colleges and programs provide an opportunity for high-achieving students to complete rigorous, academically-enriching curriculum within a large institution.  Students take honors courses to meet core requirements; then complete university-wide classes in their major.  Students must apply and be accepted into the honors program at their respective institution, and can do so as high school seniors while applying for college admission.  There is usually no additional cost, in fact honors students may qualify for additional scholarships.
The event is free and open to all interested high school students (Freshman-Seniors) and their families from the Palouse and the LC Valley.  Refreshments will be served.
Before the event begins, counselors, teachers and administrators from high schools in Latah and Whitman Counties, and Lewiston and Clarkston, will be participating in a one hour reception with the schools from 5:00-6:00 pm, where they can learn more about honors colleges and programs, and share information about their students.
