Spanish quartet Las Migas will perform their signature blend of flamenco and Mediterranean music in Washington State University’s Jones Theatre on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to their evening concert, Las Migas will present a lecture/demonstration on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m. in Jones Theatre, that is free and open to all.
Las Migas are nominated for a 2017 Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album for their latest release, “Vente Conmigo.” Awards will be announced at a ceremony broadcast by Univision Nov. 16.
The women of Las Migas come from four cities (Barcelona, Sevilla, Cordoba and Lerida) spanning not only the geography of Spain but also its cultural diversity. Their shared love of flamenco can be heard in the intricate rhythms of the guitars, the dancing lines of the violin and the raw power of the vocals.
Reserved seating costs $18 adults, $15 seniors (ages 60 and up) and $9 non-WSU students and youth. WSU student admission is free with valid ID. A discounted rate of $14 per person is available to groups of eight or more.
Tickets are on sale now at all TicketsWest outlets, including online at TicketsWest.com, by phone at 800-325-SEAT, and in person at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday) and the Rosauers Supermarket in Lewiston, Idaho. Advance tickets are subject to convenience charges unless purchased at the Beasley Coliseum ticket office. The Daggy Hall box office opens for ticket sales and will-call beginning two hours before the performance.
Founded in 2004, Las Migas’ current line-up coalesced in 2013. Andalusians Marta Robles, the group’s cofounder, and Alicia Grillo, the most recent addition, are the guitarists. The Catalans are vocalist and dancer Alba Carmona and violinist Roser Loscos.
Las Migas’ aesthetic has since evolved to include Latin and electronic elements on “Vente Conmigo,” the group’s third album. The collected songs move listeners with a sound at once rhythmic and luminous.
With melodies ranging from passionate to playful, Las Migas’ live shows mix thrilling musicianship and heartfelt choreography to showcase their unique style, which has been described as “music for the soul” and “sung poetry.”
Las Migas are presented by WSU Performing Arts in collaboration with WSU Global Connections and with generous support from the Residence Inn by Marriott Pullman and the Courtyard by Marriott Pullman.
Convenient parking for this performance will be available without permits or fees in the Daggy Hall parking garage and in the Green 3 lot directly across the street from Daggy Hall.
