Little Pink House Gallery opens the 2018 season with a show titled SPRING on April 21 and 22, which coincides with worldwide Earth Day celebrations. SPRING features fifteen nationally and regionally recognized contemporary artists. Little Pink House Gallery is located at 157 North Elm Street in Genesee. Look for pink house signs on the routes into town. Exhibition hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on both days.
“Nature has been a continual guiding force to so many artists over the course of history,” says Ellen Vieth, owner and curator of Little Pink House Gallery. “SPRING will celebrate those connections.”
Participating SPRING artists include Dana Aldis, Anne Christensen, Claire Davis, Linda Dillard, Ray Esparsen, Jeanne Fulfs, David Herbold, Aaron Johnson, Ryan Law, Lauren McCleary, Ludmilla Saskova Perez, Amber Perrodin, Michel Demetri Tsouris, Ellen Vieth and Len Zeoli.
Vieth says that visitors to the gallery will easily recognize how artists perceive and protect the beauty in our natural world.
The sculptures and charcoal drawings of Moscow artist Ryan Law are shaped by her daily experiences at Palouse Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, a nonprofit she launched in 2006 that is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wild animals of the greater Palouse area.
“This is my first time to exhibit at Little Pink House Gallery, and I am so grateful to Ellen for her generous support and her professionalism,” says Law. “My art pays homage to the lives of animals and our relationships with them. I hope to bring awareness to the wildlife that many people want to refer to as vermin.”
Johnson’s plein air landscapes and Tsouris’ small bird paintings echo the artists’ perceptions of the changing seasons and their deep connection to the environment. A former Palouse painter now living in Hawaii, Dillard explores fire and ocean environments. Her new work possesses a dreamlike quality that can be both playful and dark.
Fulfs’ paintings are recognizable in their soft, shape and texture-driven surfaces of the Palouse, while McCleary uses cut paper and collage to edit large amounts of visual data into simple, profound statements.
Vieth’s new SPRING work continues to reflect the seasons at the Genesee gallery. “Spring is an eternal celebration of light and color, which is the driving force in my work.”
