Moscow City Council to Appoint City Attorney

Moscow Mayor Bill Lambert will bring Latah County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Mia Vowels’  appointment as City Attorney before the City Council for confirmation at the February 20th Moscow City Council meeting.    

The City Attorney position became vacant after the resignation of Rod Hall, who had served in that capacity since 2013. 

Vowels received her law degree from the University of Idaho in 2002, and has been serving as a Latah County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney since 2012. Previously she had been employed as a Nez Perce County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney from 2002 to 2012. She has been representing Latah County in many complex criminal prosecutions, including the trial of Charles Capone, who was convicted of the murder of his wife, Rachel Anderson, in 2014. The case was complicated by the fact that the victim’s body has never been discovered.

Mayor Lambert said, “In my opinion, Mia has all of the tools necessary to be an outstanding City Attorney. She is very respected by her peers and coworkers. Her work ethic, attention to detail, and familiarity with Moscow’s community values make her well-suited to serve as our attorney.”  

Vowels was one of 13 applicants for the City Attorney’s position, and one of five finalists. Her appointment will be finalized after confirmation by the City Council. Her starting date with the City has not yet been determined.
