The Palouse Choral Society Chamber Choir will perform two concerts of music from the African American spiritual tradition in early March. The concert, titled “Tell the World,” will be performed on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 at St. James Episcopal Church in Pullman, and on Sunday, March 4, at 4:00 pm at the Sliverthorne Theatre on the LCSC campus In Lewiston.

The program will trace the history of African American spirituals, from the African roots, to songs of enslaved Africans, through Civil Rights songs and gospel music. This musical tradition is still prominent and important, only because of its historical significance, but also because it addresses universal issues of the human condition—hardship, joy, sorrow, and hope. Selections include arrangements by Moses Hogan, Robert Shaw and Alice Parker, André Thomas, Thomas Dorsey, Rollo Dilworth, Keith Hampton, Byron Smith, and William Dawson.  In addition to the choral selections, the program will provide insight into the pieces and genres performed.

Tickets for the performances are $20 for adults and $8 for students. Children 6-12 are free. Blocks of four tickets for any concert are $60.  Advance tickets may be purchased at www.palousechoralsociety.org and may also be available at the door. Questions about tickets may be directed to boxoffice@palousechoralsociety2.org or 208-352-0201.
