The Latah County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to address scams involving gift cards.  Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of gift cards or prepaid debit cards in scams.  Scammers employ a number of schemes to defraud our citizens and the Sheriff’s Office has given local retailers information on common themes in scams.  Citizens in Latah County should be aware that if they are purchasing over five hundred dollars of gift cards such as iTunes cards, Moneypak Greendot cards, prepaid Visa debit cards, Walmart gift cards or eBay gift cards, their local retail cashier may tell them that this could be a part of a scam.  The Latah County Sheriff’s Office encourages our citizens to be weary of suspicious phone calls or e-mails and to call the Sheriff’s Office if they think they have been or are about to be scammed.  For more information please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 208-882-2216.
