September Recovery Celebration

August 30, 2017
September is National Recovery Month.  During September, activities will be carried out nationwide which serve to increase awareness and the understanding of mental health and substance use disorders and to celebrate the over 23 million Americans who are in recovery.  The Latah Recovery Center, located on Main Street, is a judgment free and stigma free community organization that, through advocacy, coaching, and education, helps individuals seeking recovery begin, reach, and maintain long term recovery.  The Latah Recovery Center is bringing that celebration of the recovery movement to our local area with events and activities throughout September.  We have a lot to celebrate.  We have been open for 2 years due to incredible community support that has surpassed all of our expectations, volunteers who have donated thousands of hours of their time, the umbrella of Sojourners’ Alliance that has provided us with wise and helpful guides, and three of the greatest staff members we could hope for.  Most of all we celebrate the peers who have entered our doors seeking help and are willing to do the hard work it takes to start and maintain recovery.
The Latah Recovery Center invites the public to help us celebrate and learn more about what we do.  On September 1 from 11:00 to 2:00 we will be celebrating our second birthday.  The public is invited to drop in for cake and punch and to meet some of our service providers.  During the Vandal Block Party September 8, the Center will have a table outside with information and popcorn. The Center will also have a table with information from 10:00 to noon Saturdays September 16 and 30.  Each Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 on station KRFP, Recovery Radio will feature individuals in recovery sharing their experiences.  The month will culminate with the Latah Recovery Festival on September 23 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at the Fairgrounds.  This event will feature a chili cook-off, a children activity table, affirmations, proclamations, shared recovery experiences, and live music.
The celebrating is about to begin.
