The Moscow Food Co-op (121 E. Fifth St. and on campus at 822 Elm St.) is delighted to announce we have successfully increased the FLOWER discount from 10 percent to 20 percent. FLOWER is an acronym that stands for Fresh, Local, Organic, and Within Everyone’s Reach. The program was designed to increase access to healthy, local, and sustainable food for those in need.
Now, families on the Palouse who qualify for EBT/SNAP benefits, WIC, Medicaid or the National School Lunch Program (free school lunch,) qualify to receive 20 percent off their total at the Moscow Food Co-op every time they shop. Those who qualify can apply online at http://www.moscowfood.coop/flower-application, or can stop in the store to fill out an application in person.
The Moscow Food Co-op provides free educational resources to FLOWER participants, such as the Healthy Eating on a Budget class series, and digital access to the Good and Cheap cookbook written by Leanne Brown. More information and educational resources can be found online at http://www.moscowfood.coop/ways-to-save/.
Potential FLOWER participants who are not Co-op owners will receive a $10 gift card to reimburse the cost of a one-year Co-op ownership. After the first year, FLOWER participants are responsible for the cost of their Co-op ownership, but are encouraged to contact the Co-op’s Marketing Department at (208) 882-8537 ext. 222 to discuss alternative payment options as necessary.
The Moscow Food Co-op is committed to maintaining close personal relationships with local producers and providing access to healthy, local, and sustainable food to those in need across the Palouse. More information on food insecurity in Whitman and Latah counties can be found online at http://map.feedingamerica.org/, and more information about the Moscow Food Co-op’s local program can be found at http://www.moscowfood.coop/local-means-local.
The Moscow Food Co-op
The Moscow Food Co-op was established in 1973, and for 45 years we have promoted our cooperative identity by providing healthy food and creating a healthier planet and a stronger, healthier community. We are guided by more than 7,800 owners, and welcome anyone to shop in our store. In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members “believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others," and aim to be good stewards of the earth and each other. The Moscow Food Co-op is located at 121 East 5th St. in Moscow, Idaho, and is open every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. We also have a satellite location on the University of Idaho campus in Moscow at 822 Elm Street. We are governed by a democratically elected nine-member Board. Both the Moscow Food Co-op’s past and future are rooted in cooperative values and principles as expressed through the International Cooperative Alliance.
