March 22, 2017 (Moscow, Idaho) — Since 1993, March 22nd has been formally designated as World Water Day by the United Nations.  Its purpose is to shed light on the global water crisis that leaves more than 1.8 billion people without access to safe drinking water and to take action against it.  While on the Palouse we have access to a safe drinking water supply in the aquifers below our feet, however, we do face our own predicament: water levels in our precious aquifers are declining.  To alleviate the pressure on our aquifer, the City of Moscow has developed several programs to help its citizens conserve more water.

Our Devices Program provides free water saving devices to City of Moscow water customers.  You can pick up low-flow showerheads, water efficient kitchen and bathroom sink aerators; toilet leak detection tablets and more at the Water Department located at 201 N. Main St.  Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see how simply changing out your showerhead can save a lot of water.  Additionally, the Fixture Rebate Program provides both residential and commercial water customers with a repayment for installing water efficient toilets and urinals.  Don’t forget about the City’s Wisescape® Program, water efficient landscaping on the Palouse, and earn a $150 rebate for converting irrigated lawn to Wisescape®.
The City of Moscow will also be hosting a FREE workshop: Plants, Pollinators, and Wisescapes® on Thursday, April 20th, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the 1912 Center.  Various speakers will be providing valuable information about pollinators, water efficient landscaping, plant selection, and more.  If you are interested in converting your own irrigated lawn, then be sure to check it out!
Every drop counts.  We can all do our part to conserve our clean and safe drinking water supply for many years to come.  For more information about City of Moscow programs or to pick up free devices please feel free to visit the Water Office at 201 N. Main St, Moscow ID or call 208.882.3122.
